How to Clean a Stainless Steel Stove, with No Nasties (of course!)

I’ve been experimenting with a few “how to” videos for my online Norwex parties, and also for existing customers – to make sure they are getting the most out of anything they have bought. So I thought I would start sharing some here – some of them you even get to see me in! 🙂
For this one, I let my stove get pretty grimy so I could really show you how to clean it, and I tried a couple of different things so you can see the difference – no nasties though!
Enjoy! 🙂

As always, I’d love a “like” or “share” if you like it – that’s how most readers find Sustainable Suburbia.
And share in the comments too – do you have a tried and true method you prefer for cleaning your stove? Have you tried the Norwex cleaning paste and if so do you love it?! Or just tell me, what do you think of my fabulous video making skills? 😉

Of course, this post will be shared at Jess’s I Blog On Tuesday (IBOT) fun extravaganza tomorrow (even though it’s strictly speaking still Monday, oops!). If I remember… And I DID remember! Latest IBOT post & link up is here.

  1. I never would have thought of that! Pretty useful tips! I plan to clean my fridge soon and I feel overwhelmed when I think of how much work is to clean the fridge. I definitely need to make a list and have a good plan before I start. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Hey, great share……
Wonderful tips!! to clean stainless steel appliance.
One of the reasons stainless steel is so widely used in kitchens is that it won’t rust easily. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean rust and stains can’t happen.
If the protective film on stainless surfaces is scratched with a steel pad or wire brush, comes into contact with hard water that is allowed to puddle or sit, or is exposed to chlorides from household cleansers, it becomes vulnerable to damage.
Thanks for sharing this valuable post it is definitely going to help me out in cleaning.
    Cheers!!

  3. Great tips! Will be sure to use a couple of these when I start my deep kitchen cleaning this weekend. It will be my first time to try not using any chemical cleaning agents. I hope vinegar and baking soda does a good job! I’m so happy I ditched toxic cleaners a while ago. I mostly use soapnuts, vinegar and baking soda for cleaning. Great roundup of DIY cleaners! I love making my own cleaners and other household products using basic ingredients I can find in my pantry and some of my favorite essential oils.

  4. Hi,
It is very nice to see your post!! It is written superb.
If cooking appliances are not clean to the best standard, it could make cooking experience a bit of a drag.
Having a stainless steel gas stove is such a prized treasure that it should always be kept sparkling clean inside and out. Keeping the surface shiny requires a soft cloth with simple soap and warm water to clean up a spill. Window cleaners and detergents especially made for stainless steel products are helpful to bring out the brilliant shine of stainless steel.
Thanks for sharing this post!! Keep share more!

  5. Hi Kirsten,
I haven’t had the chance to really look at Norwex yet. Have you tried using a vinegar and baking soda paste before? This is what I use and am wondering how they compare (price & effectiveness).

  6. For the stove top we usually just use boiling water and if they are in season we grab a few lemons from our tree and squeeze that into the water. Then just absorb the water with a small towel. It usually takes a couple times to do it. But no real cleaning products needed.
Honestly never heard of Norwex. I’ll have to check that out! 🙂

  7. I usually clean my stove with soaked rags in very hot, soapy water. I use plain dish soap, and it’s fine. Wringing them out tiny bit so there’s no water dripping, but make sure they’re still super wet. Cover them on top of the baking soda. Leave for few minutes and then come back and wipe out the baking soda and stains easily.

  8. Thank you for sharing these tips. Though cleaning of stainless stoves is not my thing I have too since I live on my own. But anyways, thank you for this amazing post. Learned a lot. Cheers! 🙂
